Frequently Asked Questions
How does StepPet work?
Walk, and your steps become points. Spend those points on cat food and shampoo to keep your pet fed and clean. Every 100 steps earns 1 point, plus 20 points just for opening the app each day. Around 3,000 steps a day comfortably covers a cat's needs.
Why is my step count 0?
Two common reasons:
- Permission not granted. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → StepPet and make sure Steps is enabled.
- No step data yet. StepPet reads whatever iPhone has already recorded. On a brand-new device, or if you carry your phone rarely, there may be nothing to read yet. Walk with your phone for a few minutes and reopen the app.
Can I use StepPet without granting Health access?
Yes. The app still works — your pet just earns only the 20-point daily check-in instead of step-based points. You can grant access later at any time.
Does my data get uploaded?
No. StepPet has no networking code whatsoever. Your step count and your pet's state never leave your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.
What happens if I don't walk for a few days?
Nothing bad, and nothing is lost. Your pet gets hungry and dirty, but it will not die or run away. StepPet also settles up for any days you missed — if you don't open the app for three days, the steps you walked on those days still count when you come back.
Why did my pet's food get more expensive?
Pets eat more as they grow, so food prices rise with level — but only up to a cap. A meal never costs more than 20 points, so your usual walking always keeps up.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone running iOS 17 or later. StepPet also includes a Home Screen widget.
